CCBCo "SPECIALS" IMAGES
The following Creek Chub special order baits are known to collectors as "Specials".
Most are catalog colors but NOT on the series shown here.
As an example you will see a #934 Baby Pikie in Blue Flash.
Although this color was made for many other series, especially saltwater baits,
it is a Special on this series.
The following lure images represent a tiny fraction of the known
CCBCo Specials produced by this Indiana company from 1916-1978.
#101 Wiggler Special (top) - Perch.
Shown with a standard configured #101 lure (bottom). Notice the difference in diameter & shape of the head. Found in a #101 Special box.
#200 Baby Wiggler Special - Silver Shiner Special.
Has the T. Van Houton "Sun Rise" hand painted lip.
#200 Baby Wiggler Special - Silver Shiner Special.
Employs the Toad Van Houton hand painted deep diver lip used by him long before CCBCo introduced another Deep Diver lip in 1950.
#201 Baby Wiggler Special - Perch.
NJ passed a law allowing only 3 hook barbs per lure. This is an example; dubbed by collectors as a "Jersey Rig".
#201 Baby Wiggler Special (top) - Perch.
Shown with a #801 Deluxe Wagtail (bottom) for comparison. Instead of a tail hook this Baby Wiggler has a metal tail.
#700 Saltwater Pikie Special - Pikie pattern.
It has a belly weight, thru-wire rigging & TWO trebles instead of the usual three trebles on a standard #700 series Pikie. Although this color is probably the most common pattern produced by Creek Chub, it is a Special on the #700 Saltwater series.
#702 Pikie Special - White/Red.
Known as the "West Coast Special". Has a screw in the right side of the body to help hold the treble in place.
#934 Baby Pikie Special - Blue Flash.
A catalog color often associated with saltwater baits but a Special on this series.
#1800 Underwater Spinner Minnow Special - Chub.
This rare lure was made in only four catalog colors. Chub pattern wasn't one of them.
#2004-S Spinnered Darter Special - Golden Shiner.
A color used on many series but not on the Darter series. This example is also the spinnered variation.
#2034 Darter Special - Blue Flash.
This is a catalog color on the #2000 Saltwater Series (2 trebles) but not in the standard (3 treble) #2000 Darter Series.
#2219 Midget Pikie Special - Frog.
Housed in the correct #2219 Special box.
#2602 Jointed Pikie Special - White w/ Glitter & Red Head.
This pattern with luminous paint was a catalog color (#722) in the #700 Pikie Series only. This Jointed Pikie resembles that color except it's non-luminous. Located in the original Special box #2602. One reference book states this pattern also given the number #2640.
#2614 Jointed Pikie Special - Yellow Spotted.
A popular color, especially on some Darters, but never a catalog color on this series.
#2714 Baby Jointed Pikie - Yellow Spotted.
Found in the same group as the #2602 Special & #2614. All are in their original mint Special marked boxes.
#3818 Beetle Special - Silver Flash.
This color Beetle has been seen in old catalogs from Sutcliffe Co. of Louisville, KY
.#4935 Jointed Darter Special - Purple Eel.
This is a popular & scarce color for CCBCo collectors. Normally offered on saltwater Creek Chub lures.
#5200 Baby Dingbat Special - Sun Spot.
Unlike most of the other Specials listed here, this pattern wasn't listed as a catalog color on any series. Instead it is a custom color reserved for the Western Auto Co. & sold in their sporting goods department.
#8037 Midget Darter Special- Yellow Flash.
A tough catalog color on any series & especially scarce when offered in a Special such as this one.
#9030 Spinning Darter Special - Orange w/ Black Spots.
This pattern is always well received with Creek Chub collectors whether it is a catalog color series or a Special such as this example.
#9034 Spinning Darter Special - Blue Flash.
An odd color to see on a tiny spinning bait when it is usually associated with the huge saltwater CCBCo lures.
#9200 Spinning Plunker Special - Green Watermelon.
I assume this name is derived from an unripened melon with white flesh & dark seeds. A design never used by CCBCo as a catalog color on any series.
#9414 Spinning Jointed Pikie Special - Yellow Spotted.
A catalog color on many series & especially popular on some of the Darter series. It is a Special on this design.
