Welcome To CreekSpeak's
Virtual Lure Show

CCBCo #200 BABY WIGGLER SERIES
Creekspeak's Featured CCBCo Series

This is the second series to be featured as a virtual lure show on Creekspeak. Appropriately, the Baby Wiggler is the second design offered by CCBCo, beginning in 1917. As the name implies, this is a smaller version of the #100 Wiggler series. The #200’s were produced until 1954. The pre-1920 baits were offered in seven different colors. Eventually thirteen different catalog colors were available, not counting all the variations within a pattern. The #05 Red Side/Dace patterns are a good example. (See my descriptions below).

Over the years the hardware & even the size of the lure changed somewhat. Although a double line tie was an early feature on many Creek Chub baits, it appears this series used the feature much later than others.

Shown below are most of the catalog colors with a few Special order colors thrown in for sport. One of the most available special order baits is the Silver Shiner Special, a paint scheme adopted by “Toad” Van Houton, a top CCBCo employee.

A note appears next to each image to give you a better insight to a particular bait. All catalog colors are available here EXCEPT the #203 Silver Shiner (not the Silver Shiner Special).

The production dates for colors shown below are for the #200 Baby Wiggler series only.

As time allows I will change the Featured Series on Creekspeak.

The next presentation will be the #300 Crawdad, #400 Baby Crawdad & #500 Series Open Mouth Shiner

#200 Silver Shiner Special

A. #200 Silver Shiner Special – A unique color usually associated with the hand painted “Toad” Van Houton lip. This lip style is known as the “ Sunrise” style. Different than the #03 Silver Shiner.

#200 Silver Shiner Special

B. #200 Silver Shiner Special – Another variant of a “Toad” Van Houton Special. This lure has an elongated hand painted lip with two eyes painted on the vertical bent section & “lipstick” around the lip slot.

#200 Chub

C. #200 Chub – One of the few series using the Chub pattern as the “00” color. This motif produced from 1917-1954. A color often confused with #03 Silver Shiner & #07 Mullet.

#201 Intro

D. #201 Intro Perch – Many collectors gravitate toward the earliest CCBCo baits. This is a pre-1920 example with an unmarked lip; hand painted gills, fins, & a “fat” belly cup.

#201 Special Tail

E. #201 Perch Special – Notice the metal fluted tail. The #200 series has only one belly hook. If this was from the #800 series DeLuxe Wagtail,
(which had a similar body & a metal tail), it would have TWO belly hooks.

#201 New Jersey Rig

F. #201 Perch Special – There are many types of Specials. This is a “New Jersey” rigged bait. This state only allowed 3 barbs per lure.
Hence, the double & single hook on this guy.

#201 Perch

G. #201 Perch – As you can see I’ve located several variations of this color. This one is a late production example with lighter vertical “bar”’ treatment. The #01 Perch was painted from 1917-1954.

#202 Red & White

H. #202 White & Red – A conventional example.
It has a single line tie, which is less often seen on this series.
This color produced from 1917-1954.

No Image Available

I. #203 Silver Shiner – Different than the Silver Shiner Special shown above. Sorry, no example of this lure in my collection yet. If you have a Mint specimen for sale, please contact me.

#204 Early Golden Shiner

J. #204 Golden Shiner – This is a beautiful example from the 1920’s. Notice the large scale pattern, silver belly & lean body. This color produced in many variations from 1917-1954.

#204 Golden Shiner

K. #204 Golden Shiner – Another chance to compare the same color from two different eras. Check the paint pattern on this later bait against the #204 lure listed just before.

#205 Intro Red Side

L. #205 Intro Red Side – This color evolved dramatically over the years. This pre-1920 specimen has an unmarked lip, silver & cream on the belly, a reddish blended stripe on the side, no tail cup, & a “fat” belly cup.

#205 Dace

M. #205 Dace – A large red scale that covered the lure’s sides replaced the Intro style shown just before. By the early 1930’s Dace was introduced which was a variation of the newer pattern Red Side. Dace’s blue area between the sides & back was the difference. Apparently, these two newer patterns were made in tandem for many years although Dace is seen much more often.

#206 Goldfish

N. #206 Goldfish – One of the few CCBCo series to use this as a catalog color. Immensely popular with today’s collectors. A Baby Wiggler color from 1920-1954.

#207 Mullett

O. #207 Mullet – A very difficult color to locate in this series. A catalog color from only 1950-1954, which accounts for the scarcity. Single line tie, a medium blue scale back blending into lighter blue sides & a cream color belly.

#208 Rainbow Special

P. #208 Rainbow Special – Although this color was very popular on many series (including several size Pikies), it is a special order on this design. A pale blue back which is usually indicative of a pre-1940’s bait.

#209 Brilliant Greenback

Q. #209 Brilliant Greenback – You’ll see many different hues of green as this pattern evolved over the years. Produced from 1917-1949 but a difficult color to locate in top condition. Notice the scale pattern goes only halfway down the sides of the bait, which is one of the distinguishing features of this color.

#211 Black & White

R. #211 Black & White – Another tough color combo from CCBCo. Again, produced a long time (1919-1949) but never very popular with old-time anglers because the color isn’t often seen today.

#212 All Red

S. #212 All Red – A color that causes trepidation among collectors because it is the victim of repaints. However, not all Red lures are phonies so if one uses some common sense, a good black light & happens to know the provenance of the lure, why not take a positive approach & fill this “hole” in your collection.

#213 Black Special

T. #213 Black Special – “Creek Chub” gold stenciled on the lure’s back. A double line tie. The physical features on this lure date it to the
1930’s-1940’s.

#218 Silver Flash

U. #218 Silver Flash – One of Creek Chub’s best selling colors, eventually offered on 72 different original series bait casting, spinning & fly rod lures.

#219 Frog

V. #219 Frog – A very common pattern on some series such as the #2000 Darters but produced for only a few years on other designs. This #219 Baby Wiggler is very scarce, even tougher than the coveted #119 Frog Wiggler. A catalog color in this series from 1950-1954.
